How-To-Measure For Your New Residential Garage Door

Use the instructions through four consecutive steps, to measure your existing garage door. Contact Amelia Overhead Doors at (804) 561-5979, or through the inquiry form on our website, www.AmeliaDoor.com, to then purchase the garage door that you like!

Step #1
Measure the width and height (1 and 2) of your door to decide on the garage door size you need. The rough opening should be the same size as the door.

Step #2
Measure the left side and right side (3 and 4). A minimum of 3.75″ is required on each side for installation of the vertical track for a standard extension spring, standard torsion spring, and the torsion spring system; 5.5″ for the extension spring system.

Step #3
Measure the area labeled headroom (5), which is the distance between the top of the door opening and the ceiling. 10″ is required for the standard extension spring system while 12″ is required for a standard torsion spring and torsion spring system. If the height measurement in your garage is shorter than our suggested guidelines, Amelia Overhead Doors can still accommodate unique specifications through a custom installation process.

Step #4
Measure area labeled backroom (6) – distance is measured from the garage door opening toward the back wall of your garage room. A door height with an additional 18″ is required.
